I am a technology and business lawyer with more than 18 years of experience as an in-house attorney in public and private companies ranging from Fortune 100 organizations to single-lawyer start-ups. In that time, I have served as a general counsel, division GC, and CEO (of a women’s professional sports league), so I understand the business value lawyers must bring and the never-ending push to do more with fewer resources.
My business experience has honed my passion for giving practical, right-sized advice on transactions, compliance matters, and disputes. More than anything, I strive to enable my clients to structure their businesses and deals in a way that minimizes complexity and legal risk. My in-house roles have spanned diverse industries. Most recently, I was the lead attorney for the North America business at Avanade Inc., a global technology services provider founded as a joint venture of Microsoft and Accenture, where I led a team of 13 legal professionals supporting Avanade’s largest geographic business. Before that, I served as the Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Professional Soccer and previously, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of support.com, a Silicon Valley provider of software and services that automate the resolution of technology problems. I have also held senior roles at Intuit, Honeywell, and Wind River Systems. I started my legal career as a litigator at Kirkland & Ellis and Howard Rice (now Arnold & Porter). I clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. I have a B.A. in Architecture from Yale University and a J.D. from the University of Chicago law school. My other passion is community service. I am a volunteer with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, which has allowed me to help people in an entirely different way (I never thought I’d find myself rappelling off cliffs, but there you go). I love the outdoors and am committed to preserving it so everyone has an opportunity to find meaning and beauty in nature. |
